The Benefits of Buying a Tipper Trailer

Anyone who owns a private or commercial vehicle is facing ever increasing operating costs. Fuel is the main contributory factor as well as increases in road fund duty. Many contractors are saying that in order to stay competitive they are rationalising their operations. One way they have found to do this is to invest in more flexible vehicles and machinery.

By adding a trailer to one or more of your current vehicles you can increase the capacity as and when you see fit. A larger vehicle that isn't being used to full potential all of the time becomes a financial drain on resources.

Residual values of second-hand tipping trailers have always remained high making trailer purchase an excellent investment. The low maintenance schedule also means that year on year the costs of keeping a trailer on the road are negligible when compared with servicing and MOT costs associated with commercial vehicles.

Owning a tipping trailer gives the user the increased flexibility over a standard non tipper. With mesh side extensions over 200 cubic feet of carrying volume is available which can be of real benefit when transporting bulky goods or removing rubble etc. Another advantage of this size of trailer is the increased maneuverability. Arranging delivery of a skip onto a building site is expensive and difficult if the access is limited.

Many tipper trailers also come with ring latches fixed to bed of the trailer. These are ideal for securing small items of plant machinery such as excavators that are easily conveyed onto the tipper by use of the heavy-duty ramps that stow away conveniently under the tipper trailer bed, just behind the 2 toolboxes.

Look for features such as removable and adjustable partitions that allow you to transport loads without mixing them together. You can also use the tipper function without having to unload tools from the trailer providing you have stowed them securely and safely with the partitions.

Trailer security is a big issue and theft of any trailer is always a concern. Ask whether your trailer supplier can supply after-sales security devices that have been approved by insurers. In addition, some suppliers have a free ownership registration scheme with every tipper trailer.

Clive Ballard owns and operates Atlas Trailers, initially just selling tipper trailers but, in the near future, also offering a trailer hire service.
